Hip Piston
Perhaps “belly dance” should be called “hip dance” as so many of the moves come from the hips. To get a very sharp ‘Hip Piston,’ make sure to engage your glutes. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, feet parallel, pelvic tucked under, and, most importantly, knees slightly bent. Don’t let your feet move. Now flex your right glute… hard! Did your knee on the right leg straighten? Try not to lock that knee. That’s really all there is to it! Practice the right hip piston several times, then the left several times, before alternating right and left. The more you squeeze the glute, the sharper the movement will be AND practice will lead to a bold, beautiful, bubble-bum!
