Side-Step Arm Sweep

Paying attention to one crucial point can add grace to this movement because nothing looks more nervous and stressed out than a dancer with her shoulder up next to her ears! Begin by standing up tall and imagining absolutely every part of your body pulling up to the ceiling EXCEPT your shoulders. As you move your arms through this movement, keep imagining that there is a string attached to the top of your head pulling your spine straight and your whole body up except that there are barbells resting on each shoulder, pushing them down. Not just as you dance, but in your daily life too, try to think about allowing your armpits to breathe – this keeps the shoulders down, the spine straight and chest open so you will look and feel more relaxed and confident.
