As with any move where arms are lifted above your head, there is a tendency to let your shoulders rise. As you move your arms through this movement, keep imagining that there is a string attached to the top of your head pulling your spine straight and your whole body up. Also, visualize barbells resting on each shoulder pushing them down – because nothing looks more stressed out and nervous than a dancer whose shoulders are up around her ears. Not just as you dance, but in your daily life too – try to think about allowing your armpits to breathe. This keeps the shoulders down, the spine straight and chest open so you will look and feel more relaxed and confident.
