Episode 22 - Turkish Delight
Dance Level: Beginner – Intermediate
Fitness Category: Tighten and Tone
Target Zones: Glutes and Belly
Belly dance comes in many forms and styles. The Turkish moves in this episode demand particular strength and flexibility so we begin the episode with a full-body warm-up to prepare your muscles and mind to dance. The addition of the arm movements in the ‘Turkish Figure Eight’ and the ‘Basic Egyptian Step’ elevate these moves from a beginner to an intermediate level. Proper execution of the ‘Chest Camel’ demands a great degree of both strength and flexibility in the mid- and upper back, muscles which are underused in modern life. Get cheeky with saucy, Turkish-style dancer Shivaun by drawing attention to exaggerated hip movements in the ‘M and M’s’ with your eyes. Be mesmerized as Adalat, Karen, Simone, and Dominque move in perfect synchronicity in flickering firelight. Exercise doesn’t have to be a chore when you can belly dance with friends!
